Grasshopper is a magazine for all young designers, to help them create more informed, inspirational, and meaningful work. We created it so that as we learn and grow, we can help others do the same.

Most of us recently graduated from the institutional setting and seek to define ourselves in the context of the 'real world'. We are designers, photographers, architects, artists, chefs, and other creatives. Our common goal is our passion to make a positive impact on the world using our creativity.

What we're about:

-To inspire young designers. As we develop our creative sensibilities and define ourselves, we seek to open the minds of other young designers about the possibilities of design.

-To learn. It is imperative that we keep educating ourselves beyond the institutional setting. Our education and vocational training have given us a strong framework; now we need to fill in the gaps.

-To stand on the shoulders of those who have come before us. As young designers we can learn from people who have paved the way in our field or a related field. From them, we can learn about what other creatives know and increase the quality in our development.

-To bring to light relevant design issues concerning young designers. We must constantly take in the trends and issues of all fields in the art and design world - otherwise, we will find ourselves designing in a microcosm, unaware of larger interests that inevitably impact our own design sensibilities. This is important throughout a designer's working lifespan, but vital for young designers so that we are well-informed and open-minded from the start.

Grasshopper started when the founders began their post-educational growth, and will end three years later. By that time, we hope to have matured into established designers and to have outgrown this phase of our careers. It is our desire that by doing this magazine, other creatives struggling through the same transitions as us have a resource to turn to. And, if things go badly for us, we can be examples of how not to conduct a design career.
